Company Background:
Young’s Fish Market was originally founded in 1951 by Wilfred and Charlotte Young as a store that sold fish. Over the years, Young’s Fish Market has been under the ownership of three generations of the Young family. In 1979, Wilfred and Charlotte’s children, Alan and Barbara took over the business until their passing in the early 2000s. Alan’s son, Daniel, is the sole owner of Young Fish Market as of 2004. Since then, he has recruited his sister Andrea to help the business.
Over the years, Young’s Fish Market has been awarded various awards. The company has been named the “Best Hawaiian Plate” (2006), Hale Aina Award (2008) and “40 Things Every Local Must Do” by Honolulu Magazine. Other awards include the Honolulu Advertiser’s Best of the Best Award in 2008 and 2009, as well as The Honolulu Star Bulletin’s Hawaii’s Best (2007).

Personal Experience
Working with Young's Fish Market allowed me to learn more about current social media trends used in restaurant marketing.

By reaching out to popular foodie influencers within Hawai'i, I learned how these individuals are using social media to advertise local Hawai'i restaurants. I also was able to learn of certain service businesses dedicated to restaurant commercial marketing.

Project Background
For this particular project, I worked with Young's Fish Market to analyze their Instagram page and propose recommendations to improve their strategy. I conducted primary research through interviews and surveys to gain input about restaurant marketing within Hawai'i as well as informations about consumer preferences for social media. Through the data, I was able to formulate a plan consisting of four aspects with references for potential collaborations that Young's Fish Market could use to improve their social media.
